Mexico City Approves Gay Marriage

Mexico city has just passed legislation that legalizes gay marriage by redefining marriage from a union of a man and a woman to “the free uniting of two people” (according to the Huffington Post).  This is a surprising move since Mexico is a strongly catholic country and, obviously, catholics hate homosexuals.

The article also notes that:

Only seven countries allow gay marriages: Canada, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and Belgium. U.S. states that permit same-sex marriage are Iowa, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut and New Hampshire.

So, although gay marriage is on the rise around the world, there is still a long way to go and much religious hatred to overcome.
