Someone recently asked me the following question and I’d like to get your comments on it:
Would an Objectivist society have separate restrooms for men and women?
This is not a political question. Rather, it’s a question about whether a society where their view on sex and the human body is radically different than our society’s religious dominated view which would result in differences in our sense of privacy.
I think it’s a great question! If we weren’t ashamed of our bodies, would we sex-segregate bathrooms? It would certainly make for more bathrooms, reduce lines in women’s bathrooms, and completely end the issue of which bathrooms transpeople should use. On the other hand, I wonder if there wouldn’t be bad consequences if we did it in our society today, like men looking under stalls, masturbating in the bathrooms to other people, or a potential for sexual violence.
What do you think? Sound off in the comments!
