I started a GoFundMe campaign to help me go to grad school, which you can find at http://www.gofundme.com/jasonstotts.
It feels rather strange, virtually coming to you with metaphoric hat in hand, but I need your help. Since I graduated college I’ve been working in retail jobs to keep the bills paid while writing Erosophia and working on Eros and Ethos. Now that Eros and Ethos is done, I find that I want to have a real job with some flexibility to keep writing at the same time, but that will also help me to understand sexuality from a different perspective. So, I’ve decided that I am going to go to grad school and get my MA in counseling psychology and my Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) license.
I think that I can make some really positive changes in how we approach relationship and sexuality counseling. For example, I don’t think people who are into BDSM necessarily have psychological problems or that people who are polyamorous have commitment issues. I will help people to understand what sexual choices are beneficial in their lives and which are harmful and to help them live the best kind of sex life possible to them. I will help to define what it means to be a sex-positive counselor and what it means to integrate sex into your life in an affirming way.
Unfortunately, grad school is expensive and I’ll need to work full time during it, so I can’t go to a traditional school that meets during the day. This led me to Brandman (part of the Chapman system) that offers night classes and an accredited MFT program. It is, however, expensive.
So, I’m asking for your help. I don’t expect to raise all of the money I would need for grad school ($40,000), but if I can raise at least 10% ($4,000), it would make a really big difference. If you’ve valued my work and would like to help me out, please consider contributing. I’ve also got some fun incentives for donating!
I would really appreciate your donations, even if it’s only a couple of dollars. With as many readers as Erosophia has, if everyone just donated a dollar, I’d have grad school covered!
If you want to help, but can’t do so financially, you can nominate me for the 2013 Top 100 Sex Blogger awards. I came in at #93 in 2011 and #67 last year. I’d really like to make it into the top 50 this year, so go on over to http://www.betweenmysheets.com/2013-nominations and just put a comment on that page with something like: “I nominate Jason Stotts for his blog Erosophia (www.JasonStotts.com)”. You can also feel free to add copious gratuitous praise.
