Himalayan Glaciers Not Melting

by Jason Stotts

The Telegraph has a new story with a new report from the journal Nature Geoscience says that not only are the Himalayan Glaciers not melting, they are actually advancing.

Dr Bodo Bookhagen, Dirk Scherler and Manfred Strecker studied 286 glaciers between the Hindu Kush on the Afghan-Pakistan border to Bhutan, taking in six areas.

Their report, published in the journal Nature Geoscience, found the key factor affecting their advance or retreat is the amount of debris – rocks and mud – strewn on their surface, not the general nature of climate. change.

In case you missed that, it is debris covering on top of the glaciers that is affecting whether they are retreating or advancing.  The report concludes that:

“Our study shows that there is no uniform response of Himalayan glaciers to climate change and highlights the importance of debris cover for understanding glacier retreat, an effect that has so far been neglected in predictions of future water availability or global sea level.”

Of course, it came to light not long ago that the IPCC got their alarmist information, not from a peer-reviewed scientific journal, but from the environmentalist group the World Wildlife Fund.

Frankly, at this point any reasonable person should abandon the alarmist ideas about climate change and wait for some real science on the issue.  Of course, all the real science coming to light says that there is nothing unusual about the way the climate is changing, what little it has actually changed.  So, perhaps the rational alternative is for the environmentalist movement to just give up these scare tactics and try to engage with people as rational agents.  But, let’s face it, they don’t really care about the environment, what is really going on is that they hate people and want their to be less of us.  Luckily, I have an idea: mass suicide of environmentalists.  It will accomplish both their goal of reducing the human population and it will also make the world a better place.  Let’s hope they take me up on my idea!
