Pedestrian Polyamory

by Jason Stotts

Polyamory is one topic that I haven’t written much on.  It’s not because I don’t want to, but rather because it’s hard to find good information about it.  While I’ve read all of the “core texts” like Tristan Taormino’s Opening Up and Dossie Easton’s The Ethical Slut, it’s still hard to imagine living a poly-lifestyle, and if I can’t imagine it, it’s hard to write about it.  That’s all writing is, in a way, me imagining things, usually counterfactually, and then imagining its impact on my life.  That’s how one does eudaimonistic ethics, after all, you imagine the impact on your life.  But I digress.

When you look up polyamory sites or listen to various podcasts on it, it’s all about “universal love,” tantra, crystals, paganism, and other assorted nonsense.  But not Pedestrian Polyamory!  It’s a new podcast that spun out of Life on the Swingset podcast run by Cooper Beckett.  Cooper took over the floundering Kasidie Magazine (now defunct) after it stagnated due to lack of content, and revitalized it by opening to various writers, all moderated by Cooper.  Anyway, Pedestrian Polyamory is run by Shira B. Katz (why does everyone who writes about sex use a pen-name but me?) and promises to be a more rational approach to polyamory.  At the beginning of their first episode, they say:

Here at Pedestrian Polyamory we talk about sex and polyamory in a realistic, down-to-earth, and bullshit free manner.  We are normal, skeptical, logical, and slightly geeky poly-folk who promise never to talk to you about tantra, pagans, tarot cards, or any of the other crap that we are baffled to see consistently tied to non-monogamy.

You can understand why I would be drawn to this. So far, their podcast is coming through and it’s been interesting.  If you’re looking for good information about polyamory, I recommend checking them out.

I imagine I’ll be writing more about polyamory in the future, once I have a better grasp of it.
