Objectivist Blog Traffic

by Jason Stotts

In an effort to understand what kind of reach we Objectivist bloggers are having, I reached out to the OBloggers community and asked them to submit their overall page views for the month of October.  In order to get an idea of how these numbers stacked up, I also added in some other objectivist organizations and more well known sites.

The rankings, measured by total page views (are numbers are actuals, supplied by the authors, unless otherwise noted):

1. ObjectivismOnline.net – 200,000

2. Diana Hsieh’s Noodlefood – 54,512

3. Ayn Rand Institute  – 21,224 [estimate via compete.com]

4. r/Objectivism on Reddit – 15,970

5. Jason Stotts’s Erosophia – 14,687

6. Jenn Casey’s Rational Jenn – 4,462

7. The Objective Standard – 3,976 [estimate via compete.com]

8. Kelly and Santiago Valenzuela’s Mother of Exiles – 3,256

9. Martin Lindeskog’s Ego – 3,100 (Approx.)

10. Peikoff.com – 2,561 [estimate via compete.com]

11. John Drake’s Try Reason! – 2,250

12. Earl Parson’s Creatures of Prometheus – 850

13. Objectivist Answers – 629 [estimate via compete.com]

14. Rachel Miner’s The Playful Spirit – 240

Other blogs I’d like to see included, but for which I do not have the data:

Kira Peikoff’s Me, Myself, and Ayn

Scott Holleran’s Blog

Ed Cline’s The Rule of Reason

If you were not included, but would like to be, please write me at Jason(at)JasonStotts.com.  If you represent one of the organizations for which data was pulled from compete.com and you’d like to supply the actual numbers, that would be great as well.

    At ObjectivismOnline.net, our page vies are usually over 120,000 a month. Funnily enough, October was an “outlier” with over 200,000 page views.

    I wonder if the figures from “compete.com” are only measuring http://www... We don;t have too many page views there. The bulk come to forum.objectivismonline.net. So, I guess it depends on which one one wishes to measure.

    Thanks for the update. All of the compete.com numbers seemed small to me, but it’s the only way I had to get the data.

    Jason,

    I will write you an email. At the moment, I have around 100 visits per day according to SiteMeter: http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s13egoist

    I have been blogging since May 7, 2002.

    I’m not sure how to parse the numbers, but according to these sources:

    Blogger stats says I had 1,090 page views last month;

    Google Analytics says I had 615 page views in October;

    Sitemeter says I had 848 page views in October.

    I don’t really know how to compare these apples-to-apples. If anyone has ideas about why there is such a wide range, I’m all ears.

    Earl,

    That’s really weird. I sometimes have a variance between different services, but not usually more than like 5%. I’m going to with the average, which is 850. Hopefully someone else can explain why they’re so different.
